𝑖FLY — where your painted time comes from

SIGNAL · reference card · how a slot and its dropdowns are built

Two questions, one answer. Every quarter-hour you paint on the SIGNAL timeline is a small record with four fields. Three of those fields are chosen from lists — and the same three lists fill the brush bar and every dropdown in the block editors. Know where those three lists live and the whole thing is one picture.

1What a painted slot actually is

When you paint the timeline, 𝑖FLY writes one small object per 15-minute slot. It carries four things:

one painted slot · 08:15–08:30 element — which mission element it was project — optional · a project code target — optional · a card it fed note — free text you type (optional)
The element is the only one always set. Project and target are optional, and picking a project fills in its element for you. The Logbook and the Mission-Mix gauges add up these slots — so what you pick here is what every later total counts.

2The four ways a slot gets painted

Only four actions ever write a slot. All four write the same four-field object above; Erase is the only thing that removes one.

Brush + tap / drag the everyday way Fill declared lays the plan down first Quick log a whole block by time Note / edit change one you painted the day's timeline slots { element, project, target, note } Erase removes a slot — nothing else does
Fill declared copies your declared week (set in the Hangar) onto empty slots, so you only correct the differences. Quick log and Note / edit both use the pop-up editors with the dropdowns — which is question 3.

3Where the brush and the dropdowns come from

This is the heart of it. Three lists are the single source of truth. Each list is kept in exactly one place. Those same three lists build the brush bar on SIGNAL and the Category / Project / Target dropdowns in the editors — pick from either, you are picking from the same three lists.

THE THREE LISTS — EACH KEPT IN ONE PLACE Mission elements · fill the element kept in HANGAR › MISSION ELEMENTS Projects · fill the project (and set its element) kept in HANGAR › Projects · ISL-STD-001 codes Targets · fill the target the LOCK & FOX cards from DesigN8 both pickers read all three Brush bar on SIGNAL · tap one, then paint slots Dropdowns Note/edit · Quick log · Add block the painted slot element project target note
Mission element → the element field Project → the project field Target → the target field
Same three lists, two front doors. The brush bar is for painting fast; the dropdowns are for logging or fixing one block precisely. Colour follows each list from where it is kept, through the picker, to the field it fills.
The one shortcut worth remembering: pick a project and 𝑖FLY fills in its mission element for you — every project is created (in the Hangar) with a default element. So most of the time you paint with a project brush and the element takes care of itself.
One list, one name — since v1.13. Before v1.13 the list of mission elements was labelled four different ways depending on where you met it, which made it easy to go looking for the wrong thing. It now says Mission element everywhere. For anyone on an older build, the old labels were:
In the Hangar, where the list is keptMISSION ELEMENTS
Note / edit and Quick logCategory
Add block, in the declared weekElement
Inside a projectMission element
They were all the same list. This card calls it the mission element throughout, as the app now does.

4Reading a project code — the nine folders

A project code is NN.NAME — 40.SITE, 20.SWRI. The two-digit number is the top-level folder on O: under ISL-STD-001, and it is what the Logbook rolls hours up by. The nine, from the Filing Standard:

FolderWhat goes thereZone in the roll-up
00_Adminentity, SAM, insurance, licenses, subscriptionsThe Business
10_Moneybanking, Stripe, Wave, tax, the 5-year modelThe Business
20_ContractsSOWs, subcontracts, proposals, NDAs, invoices outThe Business
30_Engineeringclient ASIP work — deliverables and their inputsThe Work
40_ProductsSite, Daily, MmM, iSIP, iSRM, iFLYThe Work
50_Marketbrand kit, social, YouTube, podcast, KDPThe Work
60_Libraryresearch, reading, NIMH, PhD, referencesThe Stores
70_Mediaraw video and audio mastersThe Stores
90_Archivedissolved, superseded, kept for the recordThe Stores

Time painted with a mission element but no project rolls up as No project. LOGBOOK › ROLL-UP lists all nine folders with hours against each, empty ones included; HANGAR › PROJECTS has the same legend folded under the panel; and resting on any code on a card names its folder.

5The whole thing in a table

You pick…which fills the slot's…and the list is kept in…
Mission elementelementHANGAR › MISSION ELEMENTS
Projectproject + sets elementHANGAR › PROJECTS
TargettargetDesigN8 — the LOCK & FOX cards
A notenoteyou type it, per block

So: if a brush or a dropdown is missing the choice you want, you add it where that list is kept — a mission element (HANGAR › MISSION ELEMENTS) or a project (HANGAR › PROJECTS), or a card on DesigN8 that you move to LOCK. Add it there and it shows up in both the brush bar and the dropdowns at once.

𝑖FLY reference · SIGNAL data flow · matches the app's own model (a slot is { c, p, t, n }). File it in HANGAR › 𝑖SIP Reference to open it inside the app.
